Creative Places–Abakhans
Above: My craft haul from Abakhans.
It would be fair to say that my idea of a perfect day out involves some combination of craft, tea and cake. So when my Mum suggested that en-route to visit a family friend in Prestatyn in North Wales we took a trip to Abakhans Mostyn store, I wasn't going to say no!
I visited the area often as a child and back then, Abakhans just sold fabric, but in recent years has expanded hugely, and now has interiors, yarn and craft shops as well as a gift shop, cafe and workshop space.
Above: Just one of the whole walls covered in fabric! In addition to the traditional bolts and rolls of fabric, they also have lots of cut fabric that you can buy by weight.
Above: I have never seen such a huge selection of trimmings and notions all in one place!
Above: Wall of wool! Especially loving the fluffy yarn.
I think I was pretty restrained in my purchases (see first photo in post). I picked up a bag of leather scraps for just a couple of pounds, some seed beads, the awesome wooden beads I used in my Summer Statement Necklace tutorial and the unusual flat aluminium wire.
Above: There is also a play area to keep the little ones happy.
Above:I have to say that the angel cake was pretty amazing!
Abakhans have several other shops as well across the north west of England, but the Mostyn store is the biggest. There was so much choice of products, in well laid out buildings, I honestly just wanted to skip up and down with glee! I can entirely recommend a visit.
And there are so many other lovely places in the area, such as Llandudno, Old Colwyn, the Welsh Mountain Zoo and some glorious beaches and countryside. I am always on the lookout for places like this, so if you have any other suggestions for me, comment below or message me on social media!
