If you have looked in the craft section of your local newsagents recently, you can't help but have noticed the surge of brand new titles about general crafts. For a long time, craft magazines have been very specific to a particular craft, then Making Magazine came along and it was like a chain reaction! But one in particular had me more excited,
MollieMakes. It just seemed to hit the right spot; not too twee, not overly 'housewifely' and a good range of content. The first issue have projects on crocheting a apple cozy, stitching a felt chihuahua and making peter pan collar neck-pieces. There were shopping features, beautiful homes of crafty people, lots off little mini ideas and even a travel section. You also got a cover mounted kit to make your own felt phone/mp3 player cover! It is beautifully put together, striking a good balance between content and style. If I had to pick up on anything I would change, it would only be that it is very stitch and fabric based and I would like to see a few bits paper crafts, jewellery and mixed media. But hey, this was only Issue 1! You can also follow them on
Twitter and they have a great website too. Issue 2 of
MollieMakes is out now.
